Horbal, Bogdan

Horbal, Bogdan (b. October 27, 1965, Scinawa, Poland) — historian and librarian of Rusyn national orientation in the United States. Horbal is the son of parents from the Lemko villages of Bartne and Muszynka, who were deported during the 1947 *Vistula Operation to Silesia in southwestern Poland where he was born. He studied history at the University of Wroclaw in Poland (1984-1989; M.A., 1996), then in 1990 emigrated to the United States. He studied library science at Queens College in New York City (M.L.S, 1998) and works at the New York Public Library. Horbal is interested in the evolution of his native Lemko-Rusyn people during the twentieth century in both Europe and North America. He has published several works on Lemko personalities and on major events in the group’s history, including a study on the Lemko republics after World War I: Dzialalnosc polityczna Lemkow na Lemkowszczyznie, 1918-1921 (1997).
